The ACCP Annual Meeting is held in the fall of each year and includes a wide variety of educational Workshops and Symposia on cutting-edge, relevant topics related to clinical pharmacology and the optimal use of therapeutics. The Annual Meeting provides a forum for new scientific ideas and brings together healthcare professionals of various disciplines to meet and discuss areas of common interest. Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) credits are offered. 

Annual Meeting PharmaFete

Celebrate the opening of the Annual Meeting at the PharmaFete on Saturday, September 7th from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. This event is a fun social evening you can enjoy with friends and colleagues, old and new. A buffet of light hors d’oeuvres and bar will be provided.

Chapters & Affiliates

ACCP actively supports the establishment of US-based Chapters and international Affiliates. These Chapters and Affiliates provide Members with the opportunity to interact with colleagues and exchange ideas on a regular basis. Each Chapter and Affiliate has its own governing body and is responsible for local programs. Contact [email protected] today about establishing a Chapter or Affiliate.

Publications

ACCP owns The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (JCP), the premier journal in the field of clinical pharmacology. Published for more than 50 years and issued monthly, JCP focuses on exceptional, peer-reviewed articles that span the breadth of research and drug development to clinical care and includes original research, educational series and editorials. CME and CPE credits are offered for Journal CE articles each month. In 2011, ACCP launched its second publication, Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development (CPDD), an international, peer-reviewed journal focused on publishing high-quality clinical pharmacology studies in drug development which are primarily (but not exclusively) performed in early development phases in healthy subjects. Acceptance of a manuscript in CPDD will be determined by scientific rigor and technical soundness rather than perceived importance of the presented results. Thus, negative study results are explicitly not an obstacle for positive acceptance decisions. Only original research papers can be submitted in unsolicited form to CPDD. Editorials and reviews are considered by invitation only. 

Medical College Education

ACCP’s primary focus is to advance the teaching, research and service functions of clinical pharmacology in patient care. Working in conjunction with the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), ACCP strives to improve the quality of instruction in clinical pharmacology and its position in curriculum planning at medical colleges around the world.

The Association of American Medical Colleges has identified critical knowledge and skills that medical students must acquire before graduating in order to be prepared to function independently at the beginning of their residency training. These are called the Core Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) and include the ability to appropriately prescribe medications. The American College of Clinical Pharmacology® is developing a set of standards representing the core EPA in clinical pharmacology that are published as a series of papers known as the Clinical Pharmacology Education: Pearls for Practice^® in The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. An ACCP Committee dedicated to this task has identified eight core topics within the Clinical Pharmacology Education: Pearls for Practice^®, including pharmacokinetics & pharmacodynamics, dosage adjustment in young or old age or organ impairment, medication adherence, biologics, drug-drug interactions, working in a healthcare team, utilizing online information sources and common problem drugs. 

This is a time in which professional societies with technical expertise and an educational mission – like ACCP – have an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of medical education in America. This series of papers is intended to serve as a resource not only for ACCP Members, but also for other societies in the discipline, for medical schools, for medical professionals that would like to refresh their prescribing competencies and for the AAMC Core EPA Curriculum Developers’ Guide.

Collaborations

ACCP actively supports collaborations and joint educational programming with a global reach through partnerships with a variety of individuals and organizations who are similarly focused.
