The American College of Clinical Pharmacology® (ACCP) seeks qualified applicants for the position of Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (JCP). The due date for applications is April 28, 2023.

The JCP is one of two official publications of the ACCP. It is one of the premier international peer-reviewed journals for the field of clinical pharmacology. For more than 50 years, clinical pharmacologists, clinical and pharmaceutical researchers, drug development specialists, physicians, pharmacists, and other medical professionals have relied on the JCP for peer-reviewed articles that span the breadth of research and drug development to clinical care and include original research, educational series and editorials.

The JCP is published online only by Wiley Periodicals Inc, a subsidiary of John Wiley & Sons Inc (Publisher).

Roles and Responsibilities
The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the selection and management of all editorial content for the JCP. Together with the ACCP Publications Committee, the Editor-in-Chief will implement the strategic vision for the JCP.  While working with the Publisher, Editorial Board and Editorial Support Team, the Editor-in-Chief will seek to assure objective and timely review of all manuscripts submitted for publication by reviewers with demonstrated expertise in the subject addressed in each manuscript and make the final selection for publication in the JCP in an efficient and timely manner. The Editor-in-Chief is also responsible for promoting the JCP to individual, academic, industry and government audiences, with the goal of continually enhancing the reputation of the JCP and assuring that the vision for the JCP is consistent with the Mission and Vision, as well as the strategic goals of the ACCP. Finally, the Editor-in-Chief shall work to assure the scientific integrity of the JCP and seek to enhance the reputation of the JCP in the scientific and clinical communities.

This position shall be for a term of five years.

Compensation
A quarterly stipend will be provided to the Editor-in-Chief for the provision of services. The stipend will be commensurate with the experience of the Editor-in-Chief and the anticipated annual (cumulative) workload for the JCP. Reimbursement for all travel expenses to attend the ACCP Annual Meeting will be provided in accordance with ACCP expense reimbursement policies.

REPORTS TO: ACCP Board of Regents
TERM: Five (5) years

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
ACCP is recruiting an Editor-in-Chief to lead The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (JCP). The JCP was established over fifty years ago and publishes original research, reviews, editorials, and opinion pieces across the field of clinical pharmacology.
    
The Editor-in-Chief of the JCP reports to the Board of Regents of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology® (ACCP). The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the selection and management of all editorial content for the JCP. Together with the ACCP Publications Committee, the Editor-in-Chief develops and implements the strategic vision for the JCP. The Editor-in-Chief leads the editorial team and is also responsible for promoting the JCP to individual, academic, industry and government audiences, with the goal of continually enhancing the reputation of the JCP and assuring that the vision for the JCP is consistent with the Mission & Vision and the strategic goals of the ACCP. Finally, the Editor-in-Chief works to assure the scientific integrity of the JCP and seeks to enhance the reputation of the JCP in the scientific and clinical communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set the strategic direction for the JCP in close collaboration with the Publications Committee; regularly review and adapt the vision, mission, and content of the JCP to increase its impact, size, influence, reach and visibility.
  • Lead and manage the JCP and the Editorial support team; recruit Editorial Board members and reviewers with expertise in broad range of clinical and research areas of relevance to manuscripts that are submitted for publication, appoint replacement Editorial Board members and reviewers, as needed.
  • Ensure that manuscripts are handled efficiently and with high scientific integrity, managing the refereeing process in a timely manner and ensuring swift decision-making on submitted and solicited manuscripts.
  • Work with the Editorial support team to ensure an efficient and productive partnership with the publisher, working together to review, optimize and streamline workflows as appropriate.
  • Use market data to develop content themes/topics to develop and grow the JCP.
  • Be ultimately responsible for JCP-related ethical issues and queries/concerns from authors, with guidance and support provided by the Publisher and in line with COPE and other relevant guidelines.
  • Represent the JCP at appropriate scientific and clinical meetings.
  • Communicate and engage with the wider Editorial Board to ensure they remain active and engaged and are acting as advocates for, and active supporters of, the JCP.
  • Liaise with the Editor-in-Chief of the ACCP’s sister journal Clinical Pharmacology in Drug Development, ensuring alignment where necessary.
  • Schedule and chair an Editorial Board meeting to be held during the ACCP Annual Meeting each year, which includes the Publisher and members of the Publications Committee.
  • Submit reports describing metrics to assess the achievement of specific goals and objectives for the JCP and the Editorial Board three times a year for the Board of Regents meetings and also as required for the Publications Committee. Attend meetings of the ACCP Board of Regents when invited to provide an update on the JCP.
  • Maintain and build relationships with scientific associations within relevant fields.
  • Promote and embody the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the ACCP and at the JCP.

COMPENSATION

A quarterly stipend commensurate with both candidate experience and anticipated annual (cumulative) workload for the JCP will be provided. Reimbursement will be provided for travel expenses involved in attending ACCP's Annual Meeting in accordance with ACCP approved reimbursement policies.
