Wayne A. Colburn (Montreal, Canada. February 3, 2003) - Wayne A. Colburn, PhD, FCP, FAAPS, Vice President and Senior Research Fellow, MDS Pharma Services, passed away February 2, in Scottsdale, AZ, from complications following surgery. He was 55 years old.
Dr. Colburn was an internationally recognized expert in drug development and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics research, with more than 30 years of experience in clinical pharmacology. Dr. Colburn joined Harris Laboratories, now MDS Pharma Services, as Vice President, Clinical Development Division, in 1990. In addition, he held senior research and management positions with Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis and Hoffmann-LaRoche.
He was a Fellow and former Treasurer of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP) and was serving as the organization's president at the time of his death. Dr. Colburn received the organization's 1998 Nathaniel T. Kwit Memorial Distinguished Service Award. He served on the editorial Boards of The Drug Information Journal and Applied Clinical Trials and was an Associate Editor for The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. He was also a sustaining Charter Member and Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).
Dr. Colburn authored or coauthored more than 260 manuscripts including research articles, requested reviews/chapters and abstracts. He was also an invited speaker at more than 80 symposia held throughout the United States, Europe, Middle East, China and Japan.
He received his PhD in pharmaceutics from the State University of New York, Buffalo, and his BA in biology from Albion College, Michigan.
He is survived by his loving wife Gail and their children Kurt (wife Kim), Trent, and Adrian (husband Jeffrey), his beloved mother Vena, his brother Larry, two grandchildren Hannah and Clara, and several loving aunts and cousins.
Wayne was a dedicated individual who enhanced the lives of those around him both personally and professionally. He loved to travel with his wife, work, golf, watch sports, and completely adored his grandchildren. Both his family and his friends will miss his love, friendship, and support.
